Summer time is here, with the warm weather shedding the layers feels good! I tend to wear a lot less make up, if any at all. I have lots of great uses for lemon, skin care is certainly one of my faves. Its affordable, and can easily be done with household items.
This DIY lemon and sugar scrub can be used on both the body and face. To use on the face, this scrub works wonderfully for those with acne-prone skin. But, of course, the entire body can benefit from a lemon and sugar exfoliation that leaves skin soft and insanely smooth. It’s great for rough spots like feet, knees, elbows and hands.
What you need:
½-1 fresh lemon
Smidge of lemon zest
½ cup granulated sugar
1 tsp coconut or olive oil (either works)
1 tsp RAW honey
Small mix bowl, or travel container w/ lid to store.
Some Benefits of the Ingredients:
Lemon –Source vitamin C; can help lighten sun and age spots and even out skin tone; a natural astringent that tightens pores and brightens the complexion.
Coconut oil – Saturated Fats: When applied on the skin, they keep it smooth to the touch. retains the moisture content of the skin.
Sugar – A natural exfoliator; a natural source of glycolic acid which evens out skin tone, cleans pores.
Olive Oil – High in vitamin E, soothing and healing; a natural moisturizing ingredient often used for its anti-aging benefits.
Honey – A natural source of anti-oxidants age prevention; keeps the skin hydrated; the antibacterial properties are known to reduce breakouts.
Instructions: Add all the ingredients into a bowl , mix together to your preferred consistency. I usually make the lemon scrub enough for 2-3 uses. If you chose to make more, do replace every 3-4 weeks or so.
Application: I prefer doing this scrub in the shower as skin is moistened. Apply with gentle circles, and leave on for a few mins before rinsing clean. Sometimes I apply with a lemon wedge(ohh la la super luxurious), a small loofah or fingertips will do as well.
Give it a try, let me know what you think!
