Would you like cream in that, miss?

I have a Bialetti stove top espresso, a French press, tea pot, coffee pot, and a Keurig as well.  I  really like coffee and tea. My morning routine most days involves a strong cup of coffee.

While you’re enjoying your brew, take a moment to think about what you’re putting in it.

Commercial coffee creamers tend to be highly processed and packed with ingredients like trans fats, sugar, and artificial additives.

The good news is that there are plenty of natural creamers that will provide the same perk with some additional health benefits.

Coconut Milk: Coconuts are rich in iron and calcium and lactose-free and their milk provides the same creaminess. Whether you go for the canned kind (thicker and higher in calories) or a carton from the refrigerated section (imagine the thickness of 1% milk), go for the product with the least amount of added ingredients. Ideally, you want just water and coconut.

Real Milk and Honey: Combining skim, 1% or 2% milk with honey will give your morning mug a sweet kick while still allowing you to know exactly what you’re drinking. Natural sweeteners like honey or agave also maintain your blood sugar levels because they are both very low on the glycemic index. Need a little more something? Add vanilla or cinnamon to your coffee for a nice flavor boost that also helps lower blood sugar.

Almond Milk: Almond milk is a delicious, nutty alternative to commercial creamers. You can buy it in the dairy aisle as well. Try vanilla or dark chocolate flavored for extra taste, but watch out for added sugars in the flavored milks.

Ghee/Clarified/Grassfed Butters: Yes, you can put butter in your coffee? In fact, despite the recent publicity, the practice of adding butter and other fats to coffee for its health benefits is not a new one! I add a dash or coconut milk with it, and its the creamiest most divine cup of energy on earth!

These alternatives can be applied to tea as well. I suggest giving them a try!

Be well

  1. I can’t stand those creamers. My go to coffee mix in is half and half. And I love coconut milk from the can bc it’s so creamy, but I don’t do that one often. Another one I like is cashew milk bc it’s creamier than almond. I have never tried butter though! That sounds so good :)) do you just mix it in with a spoon? Or do you have to blend it? So curious lol!

    1. Almond is my go to but the coconut is definitely creamier! Just have to be mindful of the calories thankfully they are good fats. I like the butter as well ghee from Trader Joe’s has been my newest craving. I put a little in with vanilla and the coffee in a shaker cup or my ninja. It comes out so creamy like you used a milk frother!

      3. I read about bulletproof coffee a long time ago — but i always thought you has to put it in a blender to make the butter mix in well. So I was like nope not blending my coffee every morning. Lol that’s why I’m so excited about just using a shaker cup like you :)) thank you I’ll look it up again!
